On Saturday, September 9, 2017, we enjoyed a beautiful day walking the Eastside Beltline from Irwin Street to Piedmont Park and back. The Lantern Parade was assembling as we finished our hike. The picture on the right is of the U.S. Flag on the top of Ponce City Market. Atlanta is a great city.
Labor Day evening walk on the Atlanta Beltline with my adult autistic son.
My father was assigned to the USS Missouri, though ashore during the Surrender Ceremony.
These images are from a book in Lindsey Cowen’s library. The seal on the cover of the book says:
“Over this spot on 2 September 1945 the Instrument of Formal Surrender of Japan to the Allied Powers was Signed Thus Bringing to a Close the Second World War. The Ship at that Time was at Anchor in Tokyo Bay.”
World War II was the last declared war of the United States of America. The Declaration of War was signed on December 8, 1941.
Thank God for America’s Greatest Generation!
